Philosophy

At Nordest, designing begins with a careful reading of the territory. Every project is shaped by the climate, the materiality, and the history that give identity to a place.

This understanding guides the design process. It helps us define how a building is positioned, how it opens up, how it protects itself, the relationship it establishes with its surroundings, and how materials can create a natural continuity between architecture and landscape.

We understand design as a tool to shape a way of living. Every project must respond to a program while also creating its own experience: a way of entering, of looking, of resting, of sharing, of finding shelter, and of opening up to what surrounds it.

Sustainability is inherent to this way of designing. It begins with the project itself and takes shape through every decision: the building’s placement, orientation, climatic protection, use of resources, and choice of materials. In this way, spaces emerge that are comfortable, efficient, and designed to endure.

We work through a close relationship with the people who will inhabit each space. Listening allows us to understand needs, intuitions, and ways of living, and to transform them into an architecture with its own identity. From this meeting between territory, vision, and life emerges a proposal that is both rooted and singular.

Team

Nordest Arquitectura, founded in Palau-Sator (Girona) in 2016 by Jordi Riembau Ribot and Miquel Rusca Mestre, works on projects at different scales, with commissions for both private and public buildings. We are a studio specialised in both new-build projects and renovations and refurbishments, including listed buildings and protected heritage environments.

Principles defining our practice and our architecture are based on sustainability, authenticity, natural solutions, conceptual thinking and respect for the landscape.
